Michael Kirkland, Ph.D., MFA, is a senior faculty member in the Department of Media, Performing Arts, and Music at Regent University, in Virginia Beach where he serves as Director of Theater and coordinates the MFA and BFA in Acting degree programs. A member of Actors Equity Association (AEA), he is an active professional actor, director, and fight designer. He is a Society of American Fight Directors Certified Teacher (1992) and serves as on-site coordinator for the Virginia Beach BASH Stage and Screen Combat Workshop held each spring at Regent University. Dr. Kirkland is the author of STAGE COMBAT RESOURCE MATERIALS: AN ANNOTATED BIBLIOGRAPHY, Praeger Press, 2006 as well as numerous other articles touching upon stage combat, the history, theory, criticism. and literature of the theater. He has performed on stage and screen, directed, and taught throughout the USA and at such prestigious UK institutions as RADA, the Birmingham School of Acting, and MGA Academy, Edinburgh, Scotland.
