John Freeman

University Professor
John Freeman is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts and the Higher Education Academy. He holds a senior lecturer role at a UK university and and adjunct professorship in Australia. He has written extensively on theater, performance and creative education, with seven books, nine chapters and 50+ articles published in English, French, Italian, German, Spanish and Portuguese. He was the founding editor of ‘Performance Practice’, the first UK journal to focus on practice-led research. His latest book 'Approaches to Actor Training: International Perspectives' was published in Spring 2019.

Freeman's background is in professional theater. He played the lead role in the world premiere of Edward Bond's 'Jackets' and has performed at venues throughout Europe. In addition to stage and screen, he has made theater in prisons, community centers, shopping malls, festivals and archaeological sites.
